September 11, 2010- Nine years Later

I can still remember September 11, 2001. I was just finishing getting ready for school when on the news the first tower had been hit by an airplane. No one really knew what was going on at that point, but I still remember that being a big deal even before we had heard the news that it was a terrorist attack. Most of the day in most of the classes we just watched the news, not quite sure what was happening, but anxiously waiting to see what was going to happen. I cant believe it has already been 9 years since that day.

One of the great things about living in DC is the proximity to so many amzing monuments. We ended up going to the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, which if you havent been it is a must see.

At first we thought it was this stone and we were a little disappointed, but soon discovered that the real monument was around the corner.

This is the group that went along (Erika, me, Mike, and Brady) I am never quite sure if I should smile in these type pictures or not...

Then the monument continues across to the side, you can see on the Pentagon where it was hit becasue the stones are a little lighter colored than the others.

Here is a picture of the actual part of the monument. It is a bench and depending on where it is facing shows where the individaul that passed away was at. If you have to look towards the building to read the name on the bench, then they were in the Pentago, if the bench is pointed in the oposite direction it means that they were passengers on the plane. The ages range from 3 to 71. Quite breathtaking.

It is hard to believe that anything like this would have ever happened, but now that it has it is important for all of us to not forget, or make the lives that perished be forgotten.
